Juanita N. Williams
April 3, 1925 - July 4, 2024
Born Juanita Stroter. Also known as Juanita Norwood.
Juanita was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Daughter of Bertha Stroter and Pollard Norwood. Raised by her Aunt Jennie Griffin in Belzoni, Mississippi.
Juanita graduated from Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio in 1942. She then received an R.N. degree in 1946 as part of one of the early graduating classes from Homer G. Phillips Hospital and School of Nursing, one of the first training facilities for Black doctors and nurses in St. Louis, Missouri.
She married Dr. Edward N. Williams Jr. in 1950 in Dayton, Ohio. In 1957, they relocated to Shaker Heights, Ohio as long term residents.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward N. Williams Jr., D.D.S. in 1986.
She was an avid reader, a member of Antioch Baptist Church Quilting Group, loved gardening throughout the years and bowling in her local bowling league for more than 25 years.
She truly enjoyed volunteering with the American Heart Association and Shaker Heights Schools. Juanita was also a long term member of the Vagabond Social Club, Dental Wives and an active member in the Eliza Bryant Village Auxiliary.
Loving Mother, Grandmother, and great Grandmother. Survived by her three daughters, Anita M. Williams, Janet E. Williams-Smith and Marjorie A. Williams, and grandchildren, Alvin Ward Scales II (preceded in death), Alexander Nicholas Scales, Aaron Williams Scales, Jasmine Nicole Cisco (Andre), and Brian Keith Smith Jr. (Kim), and a host of great grandchildren.
