Judith "Judy" A. Burns, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Poudre Valley Hospital in
Fort Collins, CO. She was born September 16, 1946, in
Anthony, Kansas. She met the love of her life James "Jimmer" Burns on a beautiful day in 1962. They married on April 27, 1963, and just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was a homemaker, caregiver, and she handled the business's bookkeeping.
Her passion was dancing, every weekend was spent "cutting a rug". When she was not dancing the night away, she loved being at and in the ocean. Jimmer and Judy were both scuba certified and loved the freeing nature of the open sea. After starting their family, Jimmer and Judy took the kids on a yearlong family trip around the United States in the camper that Jimmer built. She loved to be outside and after moving back to Colorado from California, her passion for the ocean moved to the mountains. Jimmer and Judy spent every weekend lost in the mountains enjoying the fresh air and free lifestyle. They would spend the afternoons fishing on the river with the flies she tied and created herself. Although all these things filled her heart, nothing made her happier than the flashing lights and dinging of a slot machine, and boy was she lucky. Judy would never leave a casino without something in her pocket. She collected grandfather clocks, kewpie dolls, plants (she had an amazing green thumb!), and the list goes on. We aren't sure if it was her love of collecting or her love of a great deal, but she has been called an "Arc-eologist". She knew the Arc Thrift Store in and out and was on a first name basis with the staff. Her family jokes that she would buy back the items she donated to the store if it was a good enough deal! She was also very crafty. Over the years she made latch hook rugs, diamond art, stain glass, blanket weaving, needle point, dolls for all the grandkids, and she supported Jimmer in his wood carving and wood art. Jimmer and Judy put their creative sides together as they took on their own home remodel projects. Jimmer would teach Judy and she would execute the project. Together they retiled the kitchen and bathroom. Nothing challenges a marriage more than a team project, but after 60 years of marriage, not even a team project could come between them.
Judy is survived by her husband, James Burns; a sister, Beverly (Dan) Kisner; a daughter, Trudy (David) Jackson; a daughter, Arlene (James) Harris; a son, William (Renee) Burns; a grandson, JD (Jo) Jackson; a granddaughter, Misty (Justin) Dierks; a granddaughter, Abby (Steve) Walker; a grandson, Austin Miller; a granddaughter, Brittany Burns; a granddaughter, Krystal (Luke) Peterson; a grandson, Anthony Harris; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Judy is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mildred and Dewey Burrous; a sister, Marsha Vowell; and a grandson, Jesse Burns.
The celebration of life service will be held Sunday, November 5th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Windsong Estate Event Center 2901 Saddler Blvd, Severance, CO 80524.
