Judith (Judy) Caspermeyer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend was embraced by eternal peace after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She passed peacefully in her home of five years, Bickford of Quincy, on January 8, 2026.
Judy was born in Quincy, Illinois on January 6, 1939, a daughter of Frank C. and Marie Mennel Fischer.
Judy graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1957, where she met George Caspermeyer. George and Judy were married on May 9, 1959, and had a 61- year loving marriage. George preceded her in death on September 17, 2020.
Judy worked at JCPenney in the catalog department at the 6th and Maine street location. She worked nights and weekends and when Penneys moved to Quincy Mall, Judy became the Personnel Director. Oh, how many nights would she sit at the table in the basement making all those schedules! Judy retired in 2000 and proudly took on the role of full-time grandmother, spending time with her grandchildren and sharing her love of cooking and baking.
Judy and especially George, knew everyone in Quincy – from their days as St. John's parents, where they attended numerous school and social functions with the many friends they made, to Judy's 50+ year card club, where friends met monthly on Thursday evenings to play pinochle and share conversation and dessert, to the Red Hat Ladies Club with some of these same friends, Home Extension, the American Business Women's Association, to serving cake and ice cream with their beloved Cabot Road neighbors, Dr. and Mrs. Patel , at St. Vincent's home monthly, to her routine delivering meals and baked goods to friends and family in time of need. Judy's passion was cooking and baking, and she made it all look so easy her family would often say. Judy volunteered at the Blessing Hospital Tea Room, which she truly loved and was a 1st grade teacher's aide at All Saints School. George and Judy attended every grandchild's sports game, dance recital, Grandparents' Day Mass, and sacramental occasion they could. Judy was a woman of deep faith and ministered at St. John by being a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, then later stayed involved at St. Peter Catholic Church. Her devotion and love for her family and friends were unwavering, and she always put everyone else's needs before her own.
Judy is survived by her daughter Cathy (David) Ley of Quincy, Illinois, Mark (Karen) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Carol (Randy) Dailing of St. Louis, MO and Matthew (Liz) of Roswell, Georgia. Judy was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Brandon (Leah) Ley of Quincy, Illinois, Kelsey (David) Hayes of Quincy, Illinois, Amanda (Jason) Darnell of Quincy, Illinois, Zachary Caspermeyer of Bentonville, Arkansas, Kyle (Katelyn) Caspermeyer of Bentonville, Arkansas, Charlie Caspermeyer of Bentonville, Arkansas, Taylor Dailing of St. Louis, MO, Megan (Zach) Baliva of St. Louis, MO, Grace Caspermeyer of Roswell, Georgia and Audrey Caspermeyer of Roswell, Georgia, along with eleven great-grandchildren. Judy is also survived by her brother Ronald (Jackie) Fischer of Springfield, Illinois and Steve (Patty) Fischer of Altoona, Iowa, and sisters-in-law Mary Fischer and Mona Fischer, along with cherished nieces and nephews and her grade school best friend of over 80 years, Doris Ann Dolan, who visited Judy every week and brought her cookies and her infamous caramel corn.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Marie Fischer, sisters Cynthia and Sr. Marilyn Fischer, and brothers Alan and Dennis Fischer.
As Judy progressed in her dementia over the years, she could be heard constantly singing, "You Are My Sunshine." Her family, friends and loving staff at Bickford would join her in singing, "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know dear how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away." Judy was always the sunshine in everyone's day and all who met her loved her. The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff of Bickford of Quincy, who treated Judy like their family member and loved her as such, along with the caring staff of Good Samaritan Home of Quincy where Judy recuperated when she broke her hip.
