Judith Cook Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home & Crematorium from Nov. 5 to Nov. 6, 2022.
Judith Ann Cook, 71, of Given, WV, passed away November 01, 2022, after an extended illness.

Judi was born April 27, 1951, to parents Harlan Graves Burns and Margaret Powell Tyson of Charleston, WV, and was a graduate of Charleston High School, class of 1969.

Judi later married Hobart Edwin Cook III of Cabin Creek, WV, and had two children, Michelle Catherine (Cook) Lares and Michael Alan Cook.

While her children were young, Judi stayed home to raise her family. At that time, she was a member of Parchment Valley United Methodist Church of Given, where she taught Sunday School and would play piano.

Later in life, she began college and graduated from WVU-Parkersburg in 1991 with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. Judi worked as a Registered Nurse and retired from Jackson General Hospital in 2015. Judi took great pride in being a nurse. During her time at Jackson General Hospital, she mentored and trained several nurses.

Judi enjoyed cooking, baking and was very crafty. She rarely passed on an "As Seen on TV" deal. She was very devoted to her family and she adored her four grandchildren.

Judi was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart Edwin Cook III; grandmother, Faye Burns Keen; mother, Margaret Tyson; father, Harlan Burns; brothers, Jimmy Shomier and H. G. "Gee" Burns, as well as her sister, Donna Turner.

Judi is survived by her daughter, Michelle Lares of Charleston, WV; son, Michael Cook of Sissonville, WV; brother, John Shomier of Virginia Beach, VA; grandson, Ryan Hayes of Morgantown, WV; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hayes of Morgantown, WV; granddaughter, Addison Cook of Sissonville, WV, and granddaughter, Anastasia Lares of Charleston, WV. Judi also leaves behind nephews, cousins, and many family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 05, 2022, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Cottageville, WV, as Judi loved all the pets she had in her life.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.barlowbonsall.com.
