Judith A. "Judy" Crandall
Judith A. "Judy" Crandall, age 86, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on February 28, 2026. She was born on January 21, 1940, in Toledo to Donald and Glenna (Walter) Bennett.
Judy graduated from Lake High School, where she met the love of her life, Charles Crandall. She went on to study as a Medical Laboratory Technician at the Carnegie Institute of Detroit. On September 16, 1961, she married Charles, and together they shared more than six decades of devoted marriage until his passing on February 18, 2026.
Judy dedicated most of her professional life to Northwest Ohio Cardiology, where she later worked as an administrator. While she valued her work, her greatest joy was always her family.
Black Lake in Michigan was Judy and Charles's happy place. The cabin there became the heart of countless family memories. Every summer, she brought her children, Lance and Paige, north for two treasured weeks filled with boating, fishing, sunshine, and uninterrupted family time. In the winter, she enjoyed girls' trips, during which she cross-country skied and snowmobiled. A beloved and humorous family tradition included trips to the dump near the cabin to watch bears romp about. Though she adored the outdoors, Judy had her limits. She despised snakes and refused to bait hooks with worms, opting instead to cut up bologna for fishing. Family friend Marge famously stepped in to teach Paige and Lance how to fish with worms.
Known for her independence and determination, Judy never liked to ask for help and could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She loved to read, soak up the sun, and care for animals, especially dogs. Over the years, she opened her home to many rescue animals, offering them the same love and security she gave so freely to others.
A proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Judy was deeply interested in genealogy and took great pride in her family history. She also found joy in playing the organ, crocheting, and knitting.
Above all, Judy was a loyal friend, a loving mother, and a devoted grandmother known affectionately as "Grammy." She was her family's biggest cheerleader, faithfully attending hockey, softball, soccer, robotics, and basketball events for her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her calm demeanor and loving energy.
She is survived by her children, Paige (Tony) Sloma and Lance (Belynda) Crandall; grandchildren, Bradley (Quinn) Crandall, Madeline Crandall, and Annelise Sloma.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Crandall; her parents, Donald and Glenna (Walter) Bennett; and her sisters, Jacquelyn "Jacki" Bennett (Lowell) Johnson and Janet Bennett (James) Michaels.
Judith will be cremated, and her life will be celebrated privately by her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toledo Humane Society.
