Judith "Judy" Dekay

A much loved member of the Southport community, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025 at her home in the loving care of her family. Born on May 19, 1945 in Elmira to the late Ernest G. and Ruth E. Halstead Silvers. She graduated from Southside High School in 1963 and married her best friend, John in 1964. Judy was a devoted wife and mother who worked hard to ensure her daughters were educated to become professional independent women. She enjoyed playing tennis, was a sports fan, followed the NY Mets and the Buffalo Bills. She was often seen on her daily walks around town with John and their dog. In addition to John she is survived by their daughters, Jennie McLaughlin and Suzette (Patrick) Johnson; grandchildren, Kyle McLaughlin, Derek (Kayleigh) Johnson, and Alexander (Nikita) Caratelli; brothers, Marvin (Mary Margaret) Silvers and Charles (Maggie) Silvers; nieces, nephews, and especially dear to her heart, her dog Jax. In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by brothers, Bruce (Marci) Silvers and Ronald Silvers; along with a cherished grandson, Trevor McLaughlin. Judy wanted to thank the health care workers and those who supported her throughout her cancer journey. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the SPCA or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her memory. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira, NY 14904 on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 2-3 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3:15 p.m. with Rev. Justin Coffin officiating.
