In Loving Memory of Judith Erickson DiStefano
Judith Erickson DiStefano, aged 63, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, at Sacred Grounds Hospice House. Born on February 27, 1962, in Milford, Connecticut, to Eric and Sheila Erickson, she was a proud resident of Knoxville, TN, a 1980 graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School, and a 1984 graduate of the University of Tennessee. She married Michael Blaise DiStefano on August 4, 1984.
With over 25 years in early childhood education, Judy touched the lives of countless families and students. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom; she also volunteered at Children's Hospital, embodying her compassionate and nurturing spirit.
Known affectionately as Judy, she was a shining light to all who had the privilege to know her. Her empathetic nature made her a beloved figure throughout her teaching career. A social butterfly, Judy loved hosting gatherings, ensuring that everyone felt welcome and valued. Her infectious smile and unmatched kindness drew people in, and she had a remarkable ability to make anyone feel at home.
Judy's competitive spirit shone through on the tennis court and during games with family and friends. She cherished time spent with her family, especially at the beach, and played an active role in her grandchildren's lives, creating lasting memories through play, swimming, and bedtime stories. With an abundance of love, she always kept favorite snacks and art supplies on hand for her grandchildren.
Judy's love story with her husband, Mike, was one for the ages. They enjoyed cozy evenings by the fire pit, sharing music and life stories, daily walks at Lakeshore Park, and attending church services together followed by dinners at local restaurants. Their love for each other and their faith in Jesus defined their fairy-tale marriage.
Judy is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Mike DiStefano; their children, Laura (Andrew) and Mark (Chelsea); and her four cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Hayes, Adelaide, and Elle. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Shirley DiStefano; siblings Greg (Betsy) Erickson, David (Amy) Erickson, Jill (Joe) Cody, and in-laws David (Susan) DiStefano, and Kathy (Steve) Floyd; as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Sheila Erickson, and her father-in-law, James DiStefano.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 4:00 PM at The Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, located at 711 S Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN. Friends may visit from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. A reception will follow the service at 5:00 PM. As a tribute to her, we are asking that instead of wearing black to the funeral, you honor her by wearing more vibrant colors. I can promise you she will be smiling down from heaven when she sees the church full of color and life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Judy will be profoundly missed by all who had the fortune to know her. Her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of many.
