Judith Franklin, 79, beloved mother and wife, was called to her eternal resting place on July 18, 2024. She was born on February 26, 1945 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, to Luis and Juana Ramos Santos. She met her husband of 57 years, Steve Franklin, at a bus stop in downtown Silver Spring, MD. She was a 19-year-old secretary, recruited from her native Puerto Rico to do Spanish-language transcription for the federal government during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Judy made her home in Silver Spring, MD where she raised her family. She had a long career as an executive secretary for federal government agencies and her local hospital. Beloved by friends and neighbors, she always found herself in the center of warm, loving, and joyful community, from her days on Caddington Avenue to her final home in Delmar, DE, where she and Steve moved in their retirement. She loved to laugh, to dance, to cook, and throughout her life, she was happiest spending time with her children. In her final years, she enjoyed outings with her friends and was very involved with her local church.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Franklin, her son, Jason Franklin, her daughters-in-law Joanna Franklin and Karissa Sparks, grandchildren Julia, Gregory, and Garrett, and her sisters Risalina Rodriguez and Elsa Kraus. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at 3C USA Church in Delmar, DE. For those unable to attend in person, the livestreamed service can be viewed by visiting https://www.youtube.com/live/8SOEJ6jXf64.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Judy to 3C USA Church, 38238 Old Stage Rd. Delmar, DE 19940.
