Judith C. Gossert, 85, formerly of Mercersburg, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, in Chambersburg.
Born on June 7, 1939, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Laurence Oliphant and
Eve Cashman Campbell.
Judith graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree. She worked at a substitute
teacher for the Tuscarora School District, and was a member Borough Council in Mercersburg, and was
involved in the Woman's Club, and also helped the Meals on Wheels program. She was an avid reader and
enjoyed playing Bridge and other card games. Judith also helped as a Girl Scout Leader and was committed to helping provide education for women.
Judith was a lifetime member of St. Lukes the Evangelist Mission Church, and the American Legion Post
517 of Mercersburg.
Judith is survived by three children, Maurice L. "Marty" (Trudy) Gossert, Eve G. (William) Thorr, Michael
H. (Adrienne) Gossert, and 5 grandchildren, Jared L. Gossert, Hannah G. Thorr, Christopher L. Gossert,
Lauren C. Gossert, and Jon Matthew Gossert.
Judith was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice L. Gossert, Jr., and her siblings, Helenor Gilbert,
Marie Zimmerman, Laurence "Soup" Campbell, and Jane Tipton.
A viewing will be 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg,
PA. A funeral service will be 12:00 PM on Friday at St. Luke the Evangelist Mission in Mercersburg with
Father Allan Wolfe officiating and burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA.
