Judith Herderhurst Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DeVito Funeral Home from Jan. 9 to Jan. 10, 2026.
Judith A. (Coleman) Herderhurst died peacefully on January 6, 2026 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of Philip J. Herderhurst. Daughter of the late Cornelius and Dorothy Coleman of Arlington, MA. Her three sisters (Ruth, Helen, Virginia) and three brothers (Robert, John, Richard) also predeceased her but were always close with their youngest sister and have been sadly missed by Judy since their passing. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
After graduating from Arlington High School, Judy worked at the telephone company where she met Phil, married and started a family. Judy dedicated herself to several part time positions while she raised her girls (Sancta Maria Hospital, Filenes, Lexington Eye Associates to name a few). She enjoyed her time at work and made many lasting relationships with her coworkers and customers.
Judy's most treasured times were those spent with her family to whom she was completely devoted and who filled her with love and pride. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her children and their spouses, Lee Herderhurst of Pawley's Island, SC; Nancy (Toby) Clarke of Durham, NH; Amy (Chris) Stevens of Woburn, MA and Joan (Des) Kelly of Arlington, MA. She was happiest when spending time with her grandchildren and their spouses, Todd (Chantal), Kate, Terry (Caitlin), Ned (Hannah), Charlotte, Mitchell, Bradley, Ethan and Kevin. She also had two great grandchildren, Harper and Bowen, who lit her up each time she saw them and brought her immense joy.
A long-time summer resident of Hampton Beach, NH, Judy enjoyed summer days with her family and lifelong friends of 'the hill' who became family to her. She spent many happy hours crafting weekly with a group of dear friends and selling their creations at local craft fairs. She was an avid reader and loved playing Boggle with her grandchildren. Judy and Phil enjoyed traveling and visited many incredible spots in the US and abroad. They especially enjoyed their visits to Aruba where they met couples who became their lifelong friends and counted the days until they returned for their annual anniversary trip. Judy's other love was the New England Patriots. She wouldn't miss a game, and we joked that she was the 'other coach'.
We will remember Judy for her love of life, her kindness and generosity and her dedication to her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Camillus Church. Burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in memory of Judith to The Arlington Libraries Foundation at arlingtonlibrariesfoundation.org or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at stjude.org/donate.
