Judith "Judy" Hurley, age 78, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington.
Born in Somerville, MA on December 20, 1946, she was one of four children to the late Jerome and Catherine (Wadland) Hurley. Judy graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School in Somerville, and then went on to the University of Lowell to earn her undergraduate degree. Judy had a deep-rooted love for learning, and continued attending college courses throughout much of her life. She eventually earned her master's degree, but completed many additional courses as well, just for the opportunity to gain some knowledge on something new.
Judy was incredibly intelligent and organized, which helped her a tremendous amount throughout her career in technology. She worked as a computer programmer, consultant, and for the State of Massachusetts as well as an operating systems support unit manager. She took great pride in her work, and was detail oriented and structured so she always excelled wherever she was.
In her free time, Judy was passionate about taking care of anyone and everyone. Whether it was her beloved nieces and nephews-and later great nieces and nephews-or her cherished pets, of which she always had at least one. She especially loved poodles, and had several of them that she adored and pampered throughout her life. She also would volunteer her time and money to the Poodle Rescue organization every opportunity she had. The amount of compassion and concern she had for all living things truly knew no bounds. She was a steadfast support within her family; always offering her home as a place to stay if her nieces and nephews needed it, and never forgetting a single birthday card on their special days. Saying no was something Judy never really learned how to do, she just wanted to be sure the people she loved were always taken care of, and was always ready to step up whenever she was needed. She will be deeply missed for her generous, supportive, and loving nature by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Surviving Judy are her two dear siblings, Catherine Anderson of Palm Coast, FL, and Robert Hurley and his wife Diane of Burlington; her adoring nieces and nephews, Lauren Hurley, Cameron Hurley, Sean Hurley, Kenny Anderson, Gary Anderson, Chris Anderson and his wife Robin, and Donny Anderson and his partner Deanna Conde; her cherished great-nieces and nephews, Christopher, Vanessa and Matt Gould, Amy, Shannon and Dave Osbourne, Eric, Stephanie, Stephen, and Nicholas, as well as many other dear relatives and friends.
Judy was the loving sister of the late Johnny Hurley and sister-in-law of the late Kenneth Anderson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, November 25th from 4-6pm at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 26th at 10am at St. Margaret's Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington. Burial will immediately follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy's honor to Poodle Rescue of New England.
