Mother of two (Paul and Janet); grandmother of four (Abby Grintjes, Noe, Devin, Dylan); partner of Doug Knudson for 20 years; widow of David Lyons (married for 42.5 years); sister of 3 brothers, one remaining (Jim [Jean] Peterson); aunt of 16; friend of many, Judy (Judith P) Lyons (daughter of Harold and Margaret Peterson) died on February 6, 2026. Judy was born in Minneapolis and grew up in St. Paul until she went to college (Oberlin ‘57-’59 and Drew University ‘59-‘61). She lived in Ohio for 27 years with her clergy husband, who served 3 churches there. In 1988, they moved to WI for David to serve First United Methodist Church -Madison. Judy was a licensed marriage and family therapist (UW-Madison, MS) for 32 years.
In addition to her husband, Judy is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, one sister-in-law, and twin grandsons. She is survived by her partner Doug; son, Paul (Cindy); daughter Janet (Matt); and 4 grandchildren.
Judy’s ashes will be co-mingled with David’s and spread by the children and grandchildren.
No flowers, please. Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of your choice or to First UMC -Madison.
