Mark, Judith W.
SLINGERLANDS - On August 28, 2025, after a long struggle, Judy died at Albany Medical Center Hospital at age 86. Judy was born and raised in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of the late Dr. Robert N. Wolfe and Ruth Coxford, R.N. Judy was also predeceased by her only sibling, her brother, Alan D. Wolfe.
Judy graduated from Monroe High School in Rochester and from the Preparatory Department of the Eastman School of Music as part of a nearly lifelong passion with the flute. Judy received a bachelor's degree in English literature from Oberlin College in 1960. That same year, she married Donald A. Mark, who survives her. Other survivors include her son, Douglas A. Mark (Debra); daughter, Rebecca Bowman (Bert Jr.); grandson, Douglas R. Mark (Kaitlin); granddaughter, Katherine E. Mark; great-grandson, Tatum Joseph Mark; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.
Judy's professional life revolved around education and information. That life included public school teaching in Ithaca, Albany, and North Colonie; adult education with the NYS Dept of Civil Service and WERC; public relations with the YWCA and the Jewish Federation, and finally, as a travel counselor with the AAA of the Hudson Valley.
Judy and Don arrived in Albany in 1961, when Don began his almost 40-year career with NYS. Shortly afterward, they became active members of First Presbyterian Church of Albany. For more than 60 years, Judy (and Don) served that congregation in just about every way possible. Judy served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, president of the Women's Association, and on many committees. She worked with a church drama group, a liturgical dance group, a hand bell choir, and as a flute player. She also did public relations work for the church.
Judy and Don enjoyed travel in this country and abroad. They participated on about 18 Road Scholar trips and never had a bad experience. Judy was active physically throughout her life and as a teenager participated in a 100-mile canoe trip through a Canadian national park. Judy was a dedicated swimmer at the JCC for many years and at their home at Beverwyck for the last 10 years. She and Don had extensive walking routes in both Albany and Slingerlands. They enjoyed plays, concerts, movies and dining with friends and their children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Judy was also active in book clubs, the League of Women Voters and the PEO.
Judy life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 18, at First Presbyterian Church, 362 State St., Albany, N.Y. 12210. The family would appreciate gifts in Judy's memory to the church at the address above or at
