Judith “Judy” Marsell, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a passionate sports fan, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her memory will forever remain a cherished part of their lives.

Born on August 15, 1938, in the town of Waverly, Kansas to Alonzo and Helen “Betty” {Turner} Hess. She remained a Jayhawks fan for life.

Judy married the love of her life James Marsell Jr. on May 5th, 1956. Together they raised a large family until he passed in 1998.

She was a true gardener, through and through. She found immense joy in her yard and garden. Her green thumb and nurturing spirit transformed her yard into a sanctuary she loved to share with family and neighbors. It was a testament to her patience, dedication, and keen eye for beauty.

Her love for the Ohio State Buckeyes and her grandchildren’s sports teams was legendary, and she never missed a game, whether cheering from her living room or donning the team's colors in the stands. Judy's passion for the scarlet and gray was contagious, and she took great pride in sharing her enthusiasm with her family and friends.

Judy's greatest joy in life came from being a mother. She poured her heart and soul into raising her five children, instilling in them the values of love, compassion, hard work, and perseverance. Serving as an unmatched pillar of strength, Judy offered unconditional love and unwavering support for her family, creating an unbreakable bond that will forever endure.

As a grandmother and great-grandmother Judy's love multiplied with each generation. She reveled in their laughter, celebrated their achievements, and provided a loving presence in their lives. Whether she was sharing stories, working at the golf course with her best friend Jackie Crouch, helping others in their time of need, or attending school events, Judy's love and devotion knew no bounds. A favorite memory of her grandchildren was her delicious fried homemade donuts.

She was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple.

Judy will be deeply missed by her children Robert Wayne (Wendy) Marsell of Mount Vernon, James (Lisa) Marsell III of Cardington, Catherine Lechlak of Toledo, and Toni Lee (Morgan) Williams of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Frank Hess; sister Joyce Aldrich.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, daughter JoAnne Hoy-Marsell, sister Janice Hull, and her parents.

A graveside service and burial will take place at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens at a later date. Roberts Funeral Home will be assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Gentiva Hospice, 112 Harcourt Rd #3, Mt Vernon, OH 43050, or Meals On Wheels – Station Break, 160 Howard St, Mt Vernon, OH 43050.

Though Judy's physical presence may be absent, her spirit will forever blossom in the hearts of her loved ones. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her love and legacy will continue to flourish in the lives of those she cherished.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ohio Eastern Star for their love and their mother’s care. Also, a special thanks to Elaine Miller for the friendship she showed mom during her stay.
