Judith Marshall Obituary

Judith Mae (Judy) Marshall passed away on December 16th, 2024, at the age of 83. Judy was a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who remained close to the family that meant so much to her throughout her life.

A Colorado native, Judy was born on April 19th, 1941, in Golden, Colorado to Bill and Iris Fleming. She was the oldest of three children in a family that grew to include her sister Jan and her brother Don. Judy attended Golden High School and graduated in the Class of 1959. As a young woman, Judy began studying to become an X-ray technician in western Kansas. It was while in Kansas that she met her husband of more than 60 years, Rodney Owen Marshall. Rod and Judy were married on July 29th, 1962, and began building a life and family. Their daughter Cindy was born in 1963 in Kansas, and the young family moved to Colorado, settling in Denver and Westminster, where their second daughter Jennifer was born in 1966. Rod's work took the family to Kansas City for some years, where the twins Brad and Michelle were born in 1972. The family then moved back to Colorado, settling in Littleton, in Arapahoe County.

Judy was active in the local community of The Knolls where the family home was located, building lasting friendships that she maintained throughout her life, and serving on a number of community organizations. She was a long-time volunteer with the Cancer League of Colorado, where she served a term as President. Judy dedicated many years of service as an officer in P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), a sisterhood that celebrates and supports women's educational advancement. Her passionate commitment to the organization's mission of helping women achieve their dreams through education left a lasting impact on countless lives.

The family home on Harrison Way was a constant object of Judy's pride and attention, and she created a beautiful garden surrounding the home, filled with native trees and plants, and huge boulders brought back from family trips to the mountains. The family enjoyed traveling and made lasting memories during trips to Mexico and Hawaii, and aboard houseboats on Lake Powell.

After their children were grown and moved out of the house, Judy and Rod moved to New Mexico and lived in a beautiful adobe home outside Santa Fe. But the allure of friends and their life in Colorado brought them back after a few years, where they settled in Castle Pines. In their later years, Judy never grew tired of the view from her kitchen window, where she could look across the range and foothills of the Rockies, and admire Pike's Peak.

Judy will be remembered by her surviving loved-ones, including her husband Rod; her daughter Cindy and husband Don Scherer; her daughter Jennifer and husband Neal Flieger, and their two children Marshall and Analeigh; her son Brad and his wife Sarah and their two sons Owen and Sam; and her daughter Michelle and husband Tom Morley and their two daughters Caitlin and Nora.

A memorial service to reflect on Judy's long life and many contributions will be held at 3:00pm, on Saturday, January 18th, at Horan & McConaty, 5303 E. County Line Road, Centennial, CO  80122. Her service will be led by her brother, the Rev. Don Fleming of the Alaska Center for Spiritual Living.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Judy, to the Cancer League of Colorado: https://www.cancerleague.org/
