Judith H Newara

Judith "Judy" H. (Johnson) Newara, age 83, of North East, passed away on Friday August 9, 2024 at UPMC Hamot. She was born on March 15, 1941 in Erie, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Ethel (Lewis) Johnson. She graduated East High School in 1959. Judy was formerly employed by Hamot Hospital as a private secretary and was co-owner and operator of The Villager in North East for 17 years. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Newara (January 4, 2019); and sisters, Dolores Lyons, Joann Beck, and Barbara Stablein. She is survived by her daughters, Nadine Burkhart (Dan) of North East, Patricia Strine (Marty) of Ripley, and Kathleen Babins of Millcreek; nine grandchildren, Tara Malta (Joe), Alicia Buterbaugh, Jenna Stenger (Rob), Jennifer Colton (Billy), Danielle Horstman (Eric), Leah Babins, Zachary Babins, Megan Strine, and Samuel Babins; four great-grandchildren, Silas and Cole Stenger, and Jack and Emma Colton; and nieces Rebecca, Kris, and Diana. Friends and family may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Tuesday from 3 p.m. till 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service is Fr. Thomas Brooks. Interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North East Fire Department, P.O.
