Judith E. Poole

Judy passed away peacefully in Walnut Creek with her two sons present on
the afternoon of Friday, May 31, 2024 after a two-month struggle with
respiratory disease.
Judy was born to Francis Emil and Irma Lejune DeClerck in Rochester, New
York. Judy was the second oldest of four with an older brother and two
younger brothers.
She attended Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester and was honored
by receiving New York State's prestigious writing award in literature. She went
on to attend Nazareth University in Rochester where she earned a BS in
Nursing and became a registered nurse.
Loving to travel and speaking, English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese
and Italian languages she spent her early career working in Switzerland,
Germany and aboard the hospital ship, Project Hope while it was stationed in
Brazil. With her husband she continued overseas work in Australia and Iran.
After leaving Iran she settled in Contra Costa County where she had a long
career working in the medical field as a R.N. She retired after 30 years of
service at the Martinez Detention Facility.
Judy was known for her artistic ability which she honed doing portraits of
college classmates. Later in life she focused on mosaic glass making,
ceramics and crochet.
Judy was a devout Catholic and a regular attendee of Christ the King Catholic
Church in Pleasant Hill. She also volunteered at the Contra Costa Food Bank
to express her gratitude for a life well lived.
Judy is survived by her two brothers Tom and Larry and their families, her two
sons Keith and Graham, their spouses Lyndsey and Zainah, her grandchildren,
Lucas, Joline and Sullivan, her dear friend Ed Shelden and her former
husband, Owen. She was predeceased by her older brother Jim. A memorial
service is planned for June 25 at 1 PM at Queen of Heaven Catholic
Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, CA.
