James Dickson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Funeral Center on Jan. 3, 2026.
James Michael Dickson passed away peacefully with his family at his side on December 21, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on April 27, 1940, in Oakland, California, Jim was the eldest of three children of John and Muriel Dickson. He graduated from Bishop O'Dowd High School in 1958 and went on to earn his degree from St. Mary's College in 1962-an accomplishment he remained proud of throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, who passed away in December 2022. Their 56 years together in Lafayette, CA, remained one of the great joys of his life. Jim is survived by his four children: Tom Dickson and his wife Tracy of Lafayette, CA; Laurie Williams and her husband Greg of Martinez, CA; Tim Dickson and his wife Julie of Stockton, CA; and Karen Cason and her husband Colby of Sacramento, CA. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to eight grandchildren-Lauren, Kyle, and Kevin of Lafayette, CA; Gabby and James of Martinez, CA; Hope and Trevor of Stockton, CA; and Kaylin of Sacramento, CA-each of whom cherished their time with their "Papa." He is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Masar (twin) and Gail Malone, as well as extended family and many dear friends.

Jim lived with quiet purpose and unwavering dedication. He approached every responsibility with steadiness and integrity, providing for his family not only through hard work but through his constant presence. Whether cheering from the sidelines, helping with school projects, or celebrating life's milestones, Jim showed his love by showing up. He treasured the holidays, the laughter, and the traditions that brought everyone together, and he was never happier than when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His legacy endures in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the deep love he shared with all who knew him.

Jim was also deeply committed to service within his community and parish. In his younger years, he proudly volunteered as a CYO basketball coach in San Leandro, CA, and later continued coaching CYO basketball at Christ the King in the early 1990s. At Christ the King, he further served as a Eucharistic Minister and as a member of the School Board during the years his children attended grammar school at the parish. These roles were a meaningful part of his life and reflected his dedication to faith, family, and community.

Professionally, Jim spent the majority of his adult life as a CPA specializing in Corporate Tax Accounting. He also operated a personal tax practice, remaining active in the field until his full retirement in 2022. Outside of work, he found joy in celebrating holidays, supporting his favorite teams-the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, and Golden State Warriors-and creating meaningful moments for his family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Church (199 Brandon Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523) on Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Contra Costa Country Club (801 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523).
