Judith C. Schoonover

Judith C. Schoonover, born on April 14, 1942, in Excello, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, surrounded by those she loved in Middletown, Ohio. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and joy that will be remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Judith was the beloved matriarch of her family. She was nurturing and generous, always embodying the spirit of a prayer warrior whose faith was an inspiration to all. Her home was a haven for many, especially the neighborhood kids who flocked to the Schoonover residence, drawn in part by her legendary Kool-Aid. It was said that Judith made the best Kool-Aid in town, and her warmth extended beyond the delicious drinks she served. She was everybody's "favorite person," a cherished figure who babysat most of the family, ensuring that laughter and fun filled her home. In turn, everyone she loved competed to be her “favorite”- often rubbing it in after giving her a gift, calling her on the phone, or stopping by for a visit with her. All in good fun, a testament to just how treasured her love and affection was.

Judith was deeply proud of her roles as a mother and grandmother. Her sons, Steven (Kim) Schoonover, Greg (Lori) Schoonover, and Darin Schoonover, always knew the depth of her love. This love multiplied with her grandchildren: Felecia Schoonover, Theresa (Michael) Bennett, Caleb (Kayla) Schoonover, Tristan Schoonover, and Hayden Schoonover, who were all recipients of her boundless devotion. Judith treasured her great-grandchildren, Zephaniah Webb, Jace Holtgrewe, Jordan Bennett, Jackson Bennett, Jonah Bennett, and Jamison Bennett, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

In her leisure, Judy enjoyed playing card games, particularly Uno and Rummy. Her enthusiasm for Bingo and Yahtzee was not to be overlooked. And she never let anyone forget that she was the CHAMP. She took great pride in hosting and decorating for the holidays with her favorite being Christmas. Her tree decorating skills were unrivaled as she meticulously shaped each branch and placed each ornament. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate with the family she so deeply cherished.

She is survived by her loving siblings, Carlene (Charlie) Brooks, Dennis (Patty) Viars, Candace (Rob) English, and Ricky (Jeanette) Viars, who will carry on her memory within their hearts.

Judith has been welcomed into the arms of her cherished husband, Roger E. Schoonover, who predeceased her on October 31, 2011, and her beloved parents, Raymond and Lena (nee Powell) Viars. Also greeting her at Heaven’s gates were her beloved sisters Leatha Workman and Brenda Viars, and brothers Phillip Viars, Victor Viars, and Stanley Viars. The bonds of love forged throughout her life have left an indelible mark on all who were lucky enough to have known her.

The family invites everyone to celebrate Judith's life during visitation at Mueller Hicks Funeral Home & Crematory in Middletown, Ohio, on March 15, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Chris Cramer and Greg Schoonover officiating. Following the service, a graveside service will be held at Woodside Cemetery at 1:15 PM.

Judith C. Schoonover was a bright light in this world, and her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved. Her legacy of love and laughter will forever guide her family, reminding them of the nurturing soul that she was.
