Judith Ann "Judy" Sherman, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the age of 86, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Louisiana after suffering from a series of illnesses. She was born on Wednesday, February 22, 1939, in Peoria, Illinois, the second child of the late Alice Murphy and Leonard Madison Sherman.
Growing up in Hannibal, Missouri, Judy was voted Queen of her eighth grade class and graduated from Hannibal High School. She spent her entire working life as a teletype operator for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad working in many states, before settling in Galesburg, Illinois. Her coworkers thought a great deal of her.
After her retirement, Judy made the move to Albany, Louisiana, allowing her to be closer to her family. Judy was a good neighbor wherever she lived, and was known for her great wit. Judy was especially fond of her nieces and nephews, "the little people," as she called them. Judy never missed their birthdays or holidays, and would often surprise them with their favorite toys and sweets. Her most treasured memories were made at the beach in Gulf Shores, a place that always brought her happiness.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. William F. Sherman of Amite, Louisiana; and sister, Patricia Sherman Neihaus of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Catharine Sherman (Doyle) of Columbia, Missouri, and Karen E. Sherman Bates (Donald) of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; brother, Dr. C. Kenneth Sherman (Barbara) of Springfield, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Ursula Cefalu Sherman of Amite, Louisiana; and brother-in-law, Calvin Neihaus of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. In addition, there are also two generations of nieces and nephews in Columbia, Missouri, Witchita, Kansas, Fairhope, Alabama, and Lafayette, Amite, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
