Judith Hope Smiley was born in Chicago, Illinois, January 17, 1942, and passed peacefully on January 19, 2025. She moved to Columbus, Ohio in high school and graduated from West High School in 1960. On August 10, 1963, she married the love of her life Jim Smiley, and they were married for over 61 years.
Judy loved to travel, discovering Hilton Head in the early 70’s, gardening, sewing outfits for her grandchildren and was an avid Ohio State Basketball fan. Judy received her RN degree (with honors) from Flower Hospital in Toledo, Ohio and later went on to receive her Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Counseling. She worked at Riverside Methodist Hospital her entire career and was very proud to be a part of the Elizabeth Blackwell Center, which specialized in counseling for women.
Judy had an incredible strong belief in God and was a Deacon at Bethel Presbyterian Church. Judy loved to exercise and stay healthy. She completed 2 marathons and never lost the lust for running and walking. Of all her accomplishments she was most proud of her family! The love between her and Jim was always on display every day.
She is survived by her brother Jerry Ferrero (Judy), 2 children John (Cyndi), Jill Lynch (Jeff), her grandchildren Nicole Sattler (Ben), Katlyn Martin (Noah), Stephanie Smiley (Braedon), Shannon Lynch (Caleb) and great children Andrew and Katrina. We want to thank Cotter House for all their great care over the last 4 years and specifically Marty, Brie, Meg and Doris.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Cotter House, the Memory Care facility where Judy resided for the past couple of years- https://cotterhouseworthington.com/donate/.
