Judith Ann (Shields) Van Meter, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri, died September 22, 2025, in Alhambra, Illinois.

Judi was born Wednesday, October 22, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo. to Wallace and Helen (Dorrell) Shields.

She married Roy Van Meter June 12, 1965 at the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Mo.

She attended Raytown High School and graduated from Heavilin Beauty School in 1959. She and her mother shared a beauty shop in the early 1960s, and she opened her own business in her home in 1968.

She was a beautician for over 50 years. She also sold cosmetics and cologne at The Jones Store in Independence, Mo. in the 1980s and 90s.

She was a very talented artist from the time she was in elementary school up until her death. She could paint, draw or style anything and won awards at various contests and fairs.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Larry Shields, husband Roy Van Meter and grandson Zachary Hunt.

She is survived by daughters Lori (Rod) Overton, Blue Springs, Mo.; Kelly (Wayne) Herbert, Wichita, Ks.; Vicki (Jon) Borlin, Troy, Ill.; grandchildren Brandon (Anna) Byrd, Brittany (Chad) Schlapia, Jennifer Overton, Brad (Erin) Overton, Maxx Borlin and Tobi Borlin; and nine great-grandchildren; sister Pamela Doutt (Dick) and brother Steve Shields.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Herman, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics Illinois.
