Judith Welsh Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 4, 2025.
Judy herself lovingly wrote the following. Today, we sadly said goodbye to Judith Lee Welsh, our Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandma, Grandma Judy, Grandma Horse, Grandma Watch, Grandma Slug, Grandma Moneybags, Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt, and friend. Judith L. Welsh, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, entered her eternal rest on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Comfort Care Assisted Living in the presence of her loving family. She is with her Lord and reunited with dear loved ones. Judy was born November 10, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of the late Russell Kimball and Isabel Lois (Burmaster) Collin. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1956, Judy married her high school sweetheart, Donald Edward Welsh, in a First United Methodist Church ceremony on July 29, 1956. They raised three beautiful children: Kathy, Jeffrey, and Linda. Judy continued her education at Central Michigan University, earning her teaching certificate with Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees. She loved teaching and was dedicated to creative educational and hands-on education to reach her goal of preparing students academically and socially. In 1986 she was extremely honored when awarded the Mt. Pleasant Public School Excellence in Teaching Award. After teaching for 27 years, she retired and enjoyed volunteering by serving on the Union Township Board of Appeals, Mt. Pleasant Ice Arena Board, church summer camps, Isabella County Historical Society, and in 2011, "Grandma Judy", as affectionately known by the Isabella County Horse 4-H members, was deeply gratified when she was honored for her 32 years of volunteering service. She enjoyed being busy and participated in the first Mt. Pleasant Citizen's Academy class, received her Michigan Real Estate License, and designed and built homes for herself, family, and friends. Judy's greatest love was to be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to attend their concerts, dance programs, sports, and equestrian events. Judy had a remarkable and, at times, mischievous sense of humor, a determined spirit, and a generous heart. She was always active and never afraid to try anything new from snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins, parasailing, flying in a B-52 bomber, horseback riding, flying lessons in a Cessna, and aerial bungee jumping. Judy was a country girl and heart and was at peace working with her horse. She successfully continued competitively showing until the age of 77. Judy's prayers guided her life and gave her courage, peace, and a caring soul. She will be missed for her love and support of family and friends. Preceding Judy in death were her true love and devoted husband, Don, and daughter, Kathy Sue. She is survived by her loving and supportive daughter and son-in-law Linda and Gerard Vogel of Mt. Pleasant and their two children Marcus (Jessica Barnes) Vogel (and their family Brayden, Ally, and Sophia) and Whitley (Adam) Jackson (and their family Leena Rae, Collin Edward, and Oaklee Ann); son Jeffrey D. Welsh of Shepherd and his six children Joshua, Jacob, Nicole, Alicia, Donald, and Rebecca. Also surviving is grandson Garrett Burrows (Megan Williams); nephew Joel Bidstrup; niece Susan Barnes; great nieces Hayley Massey and Shelby Ascencio; and dear friends Alice, Roy and Kathy Burlington, Joyce Moody, and Sue Postema. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception (attached to the funeral home). Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery following the meal. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 3033 and Auxiliary to be shared. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family gives a special thank you to Comfort Care Senior Living, MSM, staff and residents for the wonderful care that was given.
