Judy Hollingsworth Harrelson

Toccoa resident Judy H. Harrelson passed away Friday, September 19, after a short illness. A native of Statesboro, Ga, Judy held degrees in Sociology and Education, graduating first from Georgia Southern College and later from the University of West Georgia. She worked with disadvantaged and special needs children her entire career. Her employers included Carroll County Schools, Douglas County Schools and the Douglas County Department of Family and Children's Services. Judy was intellectually curious from a young age, actively engaging in both political and theological discussions. In retirement, she became involved in county level political organizations. She was a past elected elder at Carrollton Presbyterian Church and later attended The Pointe Church, Eastanollee, Ga. She was a lifelong avid reader of fiction, particularly English murder mysteries. Judy also pursued needlepoint in her spare time. In retirement, she traveled to Europe nearly every year, visiting places she had read about since childhood. Judy found great pleasure in gardening and was active in both the Plantation Planter's Garden Club and the Plantation Women's Club. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Kermit Hollingsworth and Nan Nesmith Hollingsworth Dewitt, brother Andrew Kenneth Hollingsworth, and grandniece, infant Emma Claire Hollingsworth. Survivors include her sister-in-law Ann P. Hollingsworth of Dublin, Ga and brother J. Dennis Hollingsworth (Rebecca) of Commerce, Ga, niece Lori H. Hill (Don) of Dublin, Ga, nephews Andrew Kenneth (Ashley) Hollingsworth of Cumming, Ga; and Jeff Dennis Morgan Hollingsworth (Sara) of Woodstock, Ga, grandnephews Jackson Kenneth Hill (Hannah) of Perry, Ga, Evan Andrew Hill of Atlanta, Ga, Owen Andrew Hollingsworth of Cumming, Ga, John Timothy Hollingsworth of Woodstock and grandniece Abigail Sophie Hollingsworth of Woodstock, Ga. Services are graveside at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Middle Ground Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro, Ga. Elder Keith Hollingsworth will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers are John McCormick, Terry Nesmith, Bobby Ray Robbins, Craig Nesmith, Don Hill, Andy Hollingsworth and Jeff Hollingsworth.
