Judy Herrington, 72, was born Feb. 12, 1953 in Wellington, TX to the home of Edna Irene (Smith) and Francis Suttle Hughes, and passed from this life on the morning of Oct. 9, 2025 in Portales, NM. Ms. Herrington grew up on the family farms in Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle. In 1968, she was married to Chuck Herrington. The couple had four sons together. Their first home was in Muleshoe, but a short time later they moved to Farwell, TX. After her husband joined the US Army, they were stationed in California and Germany and finally in Colorado Springs where they were for several years. Following her husband's discharge, they moved to Clovis.
In the early to mid-1990's, Judy began working as a Rural Mail Carrier. She retired in 2016 after 25 years or more in that position. In 2016, she moved to Portales to make her home. She enjoyed reading, especially Stephen King novels, watching her favorite television shows and listening to music by Bon Jovi. She also enjoyed a good shopping trip.
She is survived by her sons, Charles "Chuck" and Wendy Herrington of Portales, Keith Herrington of Levelland, TX, Jared Herrington of Portales and Jason Herrington of Amarillo; also, by her former daughter-in-law, Jennifer Welch of Portales; seven grandchildren, Danielle Chapman, Julia Herrington, Rebekah Herrington, Alexa Perez, Avery Herrington and Emily Herrington; a brother, Steve Hughes of Euless, TX; and two sisters, Janice Talley of Alvarado, TX and Beth Anders of Clovis, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, David Hughes and a grandchild, Crysta Herrington.
