Judy Niessner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McBride-Foley Funeral Home - Paulsboro on Dec. 5, 2025.
Judith (Judy) Ellen Niessner, age 76, passed away on December 4, 2025, at her home in Fishing Creek, Maryland, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 22, 1949, in Woodbury, NJ, to James and Ellen Davis. She grew up in Brooklawn, NJ, and attended Gloucester High School. She was a member of the Brooklawn United Methodist Church youth group, where she met and fell in love with David Alan Niessner, and the two were married on August 17, 1968.

During the early years of their marriage, Judy worked as a secretary at a trucking company in Philadelphia to support Dave through seminary.

Judy and Dave had four children: Karen Niessner (Ruark), Andrew Niessner, Matthew Niessner (deceased), and Laura Niessner (Marroquin).

Judy was a stay-at-home mom after her children were born. She enjoyed volunteering as a room mom at school and assisting with after-school activities. Later, when her children were older, she returned to the workforce in child care. During this time, she realized her dream to be a teacher. She attended Cumberland County College, earning her associate's degree in early childhood education. She then became the director of Trinity Nursery School in Marmora. She would end her long career of working with children in 2014 when she retired from Burlington Special Services as a teaching assistant.

As a pastor's wife, she was very involved in the United Methodist Church. She served alongside her husband in Camden, Blackwood, Olivet, Union Grove, Westside, Mt. Pleasant, and her last church, Indian Mills United Methodist Church in Shamong, NJ. A few of her favorite activities were being part of the choir, volunteering as the worship leader for Vacation Bible School, and serving as the president of the UM Women.

When not working or at church, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her many friends. She was a good friend and was always available to help someone in need. She loved living in Tabernacle, NJ, and being in the pine barrens. She was an avid Phillies and Eagles Fan, loved journaling, and watching Law and Order. In the last years of her life, she found enjoyment attending Pleasant Day Adult Center in Cambridge, Maryland.

She is survived by her children, Karen Ruark and her husband, Richard; her son, Andrew Niessner, and his wife, Julie; and her daughter, Laura Marroquin, and her husband, Leonardo. Along with her six grandchildren, Brynn Yates, Lydia Yates, Alexandrea Niessner, Charlotte Niessner, Luke Marroquin, and Layla Marroquin. She is predeceased in death by her parents, James and Ellen Davis; her mother and father-in-law, Raymond and Violet Niessner; her husband, David Niessner; and her son, Mathew Niessner.

The Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM Friday December 12, 2025 in the McBride – Foley Funeral Home, 228 W. Broad St., Paulsboro, NJ. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday morning after 11 AM until service time. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011. Washington, DC 20090-6011. Memories can be shared at www.mcbridefoleyfh.com.
