Judy “Big Jude” passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison at the age of 82. The daughter of the late Edward and Rosemary (Rafferty) Schmidt was born August 20, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. Judy was a bartender for three different bars in Bay City, Lugies, Whyte Goose and Bay Lanes where she made many lifelong friends. She also enjoyed reading, walking, doing yard work, riding her bike, playing cards, playing pool and going to the casino, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Judy is survived by her son, Larry R. Payne Jr.; three daughters, Sherry (James) Voss, Shelly (Chris) Wyzkiewicz and Samantha (Jake) Sheppard; five grandchildren, Matt (Gretta) Voss, Tim (Kristin) Voss, Jimmy Wyzkiewicz, Alexis (Raj) Singh, Jacob Sheppard “Little man”; four great grandchildren, Nathan Voss, Avery Voss, Cameron Voss and Amina Singh; many nieces and nephews; one brother, Gary (Beth) Schmidt; four sisters, Kathy (Dick) Azelton, Chris (Greg) Krampe, Carol Travis and Particia Schmidt; brother-in-law, Bill (Deb) Salogar; special uncle, Jim Monahan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Salogar; two brothers, Raymond Schmidt and Pete Schmidt; one sister, Diane Fuentes; special aunt, Lucy Monahan; sister-in-law, Bonnie Monville and her brother-in-law, Delbert Travis.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Gephart Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Jude’s’s Children’s Research Hospital.
