Judy Talbot Obituary

Judy Conley Talbot died April 12, 2023, in Austin. Judy was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Marietta, Ga. to James Hugh (Hugh) Conley Jr. and Dorothy Henley (Dotty) Conley. Judy spent much of her youth in Marietta near her Henley grandparents, aunts and uncles. The family spent time in posts around the country where Hugh's work as a civil engineer for the Civilian Conservation Corps and the military took them.
After graduating from Marietta High School in 1948, Judy, Dotty and her sister Sue joined Hugh at Itami AFB, Japan, where he served as a civil engineer during the postwar occupation of Japan. While in Japan she experienced its culture, landscape and people, and most significantly, met and fell in love with Milton Talbot, a young flight surgeon serving at Itami.
After her year in Japan Judy attended Newcomb College in New Orleans, where Milton was also a pediatric resident. While at Newcomb she joined the Pi Beta Phi sorority. On Aug. 5, 1950, following her freshman year, Judy and Milton were married in Marietta. After Milton completed his residency in 1951, the couple moved to Big Spring, where Milton began his medical practice and they started their family. During their 20 years in Big Spring, Judy and Milton raised their family, made many dear, lifelong friends, and were active members of the community and their church. The family moved to Austin in 1971, where Milton and Dr. Maurice Cohn formed the Capital Pediatric Group, with which he practiced until his retirement in 1998.
After settling in Austin, Judy continued to be active in the community and with their children's schools. She and Milton quickly formed a wide circle of friends in Austin whose company and companionship they enjoyed for many years. Judy was an excellent bridge player and was an active volunteer with the Seton Development Board, Travis County Medical Auxiliary, the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Group and the Sierra Garden Club. She was deeply involved in the Settlement Club, serving as president in 1984. She had a large role in starting the annual Settlement Home Garage Sale. She and Milton were active members of Tarry House.
Judy was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, and served on its vestry, Altar Guild and was a member of the St. Anne's Guild. She had similarly served at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Big Spring.
Milton was the love of Judy's life. Judy and Milton raised four children they adored, all of whom adored them in return. She was a loving and compassionate mother and took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Judy had a host of wonderful friends from her years in Austin and Big Spring, whose company was a source of enormous pleasure.
Judy was preceded in death by: her husband, Milton William Talbot Jr.; her parents, Hugh and Dotty Conley and her younger sister, Sue Conley Nagel. She is survived by: four children and their families, Anne Draper (John) of Littleton, Colo., Martha Wyckoff (Michael) of Austin, Paul Talbot (Laura) of Dallas and Emilie Brooks (Gordon) of Burlingame, Cali..; 9 grandchildren, Dow Draper (Jen), Brad Draper (Catherine), SoRelle Wyckoff Gaynor (Michael), Talbot Wyckoff, Catherine Talbot, Anne Talbot, Christopher Talbot, Miles Brooks and Hugh Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Sydney Draper and James Gaynor; brother-in-law, Walter Nagel, niece Katherine Bryant and nephew Drew Nagel and their families; and several cousins.
Judy's children wish to express their appreciation to the staff of Westminster Manor and the caregivers from Halcyon Homecare, particularly Gayle Overly and Barbara Yancey, for the capable and compassionate care they provided to Judy in her last years and to Connie Selestino for many years of faithful and loving service to Judy.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Road. A reception at the church will follow.
For those wishing to make memorial contributions the family suggests the Settlement Home, 1600 Payton Gin Rd., Austin, TX, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Rd., Austin, TX or St. Mary's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 2949, Big Spring, TX.

We were fortunate to live near the Talbots when they lived in Big Spring. She was my role model: a wonderful wife, mother, neighbor, friend. In the sometime chaotic times of young families, she was always calm, kind, and gentle, a beautiful lady. Each member of the Talbot family is dear to me. I thank God for them. May His peace be with them!

I knew Mrs. Talbot while growing up on Dayton Rd. What a wonderful place to raise a family and the best place ever to be a kid. Being the 2nd youngest on the street I had many people to look up to and one of my favorites was Mrs. Talbot. I am sure I was a bother to most people on Dayton Rd., but Mrs. Talbot was always kind to me and seemed to have time for everyone. I will never forget those days and the wonderful friends. It is very comforting to know Judy and Milton are together again.

I grew up in Big Spring and graduated from high school with Anne. I applied for and was hired by Dr T in 1973 to work in his office in the lab. Mrs Talbot(Judy) was so wonderful! Some of my favorite recipes were things she brought for our luncheons. My sons first professional photograph was in an outfit she gave him. I have so many wonderful memories of the Talbots. They were wonderful people and I will miss them! My love and condolences to Anne, Martha, Paul and Emily.
