Juel Clayton Gustafson, 89, of Edmonds, Washington, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at Swedish Hospital–Edmonds with his wife Frances by his side.
Born on June 14, 1936, in Greenbush, Minnesota, Juel was the second of four children born to John and Clare (Johnson) Gustafson. He grew up alongside his siblings Marlo, Clarice, and David, and graduated from Greenbush High School in 1954.
In 1957, Juel proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Army. A few years later, in 1962, he moved west with friends to attend the Seattle World's Fair-an adventure that would change his life forever. There, he met the love of his life, Frances Neigum, and they were married on July 10, 1965, in Seattle. Together, they raised five children and built a life rooted in love, faith, and family.
Juel worked for 32 years at a cement company in Seattle, retiring in 1998. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed camping, hunting, taking photos of his loved ones, Sunday phone calls with his brother David and spending cherished time with his wife, children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A man of deep faith, Juel and Frances were long-time parishioners at Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds, where they worshiped for nearly 37 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Clare Gustafson; his brother, Marlo; his sister, Clarice; and many other beloved family members and friends who went before him.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, at Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds.
A reception will follow. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.
Juel will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his gentle spirit, and his steadfast faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
