Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chatman-Harris Funeral Home East on Dec. 9, 2025.
Julia S. Carter (AKA Judy), was born on June 26, 1946 to the late Vernon F. Holly, Sr. and Gladys Ellison Holly. She was "the baby" of their four children. Judy peacefully transitioned during the sunrise hours of Thursday, December 4, 2025. She was the last of her siblings to go to their heavenly home; there is now, a sweet, sweet reunion of the Holly Clan. Judy followed her two sisters to Dunbar Senior High School after which she was employed by Provident Hospital, working in the Nursery, for a short period of time. She was later employed by Union Memorial Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Judy was a faithful and diligent worker throughout her employment career. She met Leroy Carter and later became his wife on November 10, 1968. Leroy became a Dad to Judy's daughter Michele and later Grand-dad to her granddaughters, Sherrie and Dashawna. Leroy had s a large family and Judy really enjoyed visiting his family in both Baltimore and North Carolina. Judy and Leroy were married for 55 years before he transitioned in February 2023. Judy was "Good People". She had a loving spirit, a big, warm heart and a welcoming smile. She was a good cook, which she inherited from her Mother. Her specialties were Macaroni and Cheese and her famous Banana Pudding. Her love for cooking was passed on to her daughter. Her home was always open to welcome family and friends. There was always much food to serve, particularly during the holidays. Judy had a special love for children, especially babies. She would take the baby in her arms and say "Ahhhh, look at her". She would frequently come to Michele's home when she had her Day Care business. She was there to lend a helping hand and to "spoil" the children as well. She and Michele also enjoyed shopping together. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Michele, granddaughters, Sherrie, Dashawna and Nakita; great granddaughters Demi and Khloe, Monicka, and Darrell, Jr. nieces Lisa Holly and Tia and Calvin, nephew, Michael Holly, and sisters-in-law, Oazie Austin, Virginia Carter, Brenda Carter, Christine Holly and Telsie Holly; and brother-in-law, Jasper Carter; great nieces: Ashley, Margaret and T'aina; and great nephews: Makai and Timothy as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, brother, Vernon F. Holly, Jr., sisters, Sheila, Inez and Eva, Son-in-law, Darrell, Sr., nephew, Vernon F. Holly, 3", celebrity first cousin, Paul" Fat Daddy" Johnson; and special friend, Norleen Johnson. There are many other aunts, uncles, cousin, in-laws and friends, too numerous to list. Truly, a Good Woman has gone home to be with the Lord.
