JULIA KATHERINE EUBANKS "Kathie"

With sadness for our loss and joy for her presence in eternity, we want to share that Julia Katherine Eubanks (Kathie) passed away at age 88 on January 10, 2026, while in hospice care in Boynton Beach. A proud native Floridian, she was born in 1937 to Julia Butler Garnett and Irl Bennett Garnett whose lineage included Andrew Walton, one of the barefoot mailmen who delivered the US Mail along the Florida Atlantic coast in the late 1800s, as well as a family legacy of citrus farming in Hypoluxo. She was the younger of two children; her brother was Linsday B. Garnett (1930 to 2009).

She attended Lake Worth High School and graduated from Florida State University in 1959, where she met the love of her life John Richard Eubanks. They were engaged after a whirlwind courtship and married on June 25, 1960. For sixty years, outside of his service in the United States Marine Corps, Kathie was rarely far from his side. The two settled in Lantana, Florida where Kathie taught at Barton Elementary School until raising their children Katherine Eubanks Hartmann and John Richard Eubanks, Jr.

Kathie had a smile and a hug for everyone. She was a gracious woman of faith, gentle in sharing her love of Christ and active in her church at Lakeside Methodist Church and later at Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church. She gave her energies and leadership to children’s programs, adult Sunday school, and bible studies all her life. She was also an active member and officer in PEO International, a philanthropic organization that motivates, educates, and celebrates women. She was particularly proud of the success of the organization’s educational scholarship recipients.

Kathie was appreciated by more people than can be counted for her hospitality expressed in home-cooked meals, gifts of baked goods, organizing group travel, hosting guests for visits, and spoiling extended family with warm and precious holidays together. Richard and Kathie enjoyed all travel but fell in love with the North Georgia mountains in the 1980s. They spent decades inviting visitors and family to their retreat in Sky Valley, Georgia, entertaining friends and family, often including friends met through square dancing and other activities. Her gifts of cross-stitch and quilts celebrated occasions as well as bringing comfort. She had special wisdom in supporting and praying for those around, and a gift for conversation, always having news and encouragement to share. We are grateful for her optimistic, can-do approach to life and constant willingness to help on behalf of others.

She was the keeper of family memories gathering and sharing photos, genealogies, and passing on precious items ranging from furniture to lace made by family members. We will remember her as a generous, faith-filled, warm, thoughtful, and dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. Kathie is survived by her daughter Katherine Hartmann, son John Eubanks, son-in-law Mark Hartmann, her daughter-in-law Katherine Eubanks, along with six grandchildren, Evan (Alec) Hartmann, James Hartmann, John Hartmann, Julia Grace (Grae) Hartmann, John Eubanks, III (Katelynn), and Alexander Chase Eubanks. We will be holding a small, graveside family service.

She was the wife and mother of Proverbs 31: “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, …. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
