Julia Freeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service - Greeneville on Dec. 19, 2025.
Julia "Judy" Elizabeth Freeman, 82, of Greeneville, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 12, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her warm spirit, generous heart, and the gentle way she welcomed others in her life.

Born with a natural curiosity and love of learning, Judy dedicated herself to helping others grow and flourish. She began her career as an elementary school teacher and later volunteered her time to teach adults how to read. She also worked in the medical field as a transcriptionist before retiring from the local Department of Human Services, where her compassion and commitment touched countless lives. In retirement, she continued her service to others by volunteering at Greeneville Community Hospital.

In 1985, Judy and her husband, Rev. Daniel Freeman, moved to Greeneville, when he was called to serve as pastor of Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Married for 61 years, Judy and Dan shared a deep partnership rooted in faith, service, and love.

Judy was an avid gardener and reader who found peace among her plants and delight in a good book. She loved traveling and cherished the chance to see new places and share those experiences with those she loved. Above all, Judy treasured time with her family.

Judy is survived by her husband Daniel Freeman; her sons Noel Freeman and Jonathan Freeman; her daughters in-law Elizabeth Freeman and Jennifer Freeman; her granddaughter Julia Gadfree and her wife Abbott Gadfree; her grandson Patrick Freeman. She was preceded in death by her parents Loyd Ivey and Peral Ivey and her brothers Bill Ivey and Bob Ivey.

A memorial service to celebrate Judy's life will be held on Saturday, December 27, at 1:00 p.m. at Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow. Rev. Andy Blackwelder will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in gratitude for the community that meant so much to her.
