Catherine Freeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holloway Funeral Home - Salisbury on Feb. 4, 2026.
Catherine Elaine Freeman, born July 19, 1954, and known affectionately as Cathy by her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 71. A life marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her community, Cathy's legacy is one that will be cherished and remembered by many.

Cathy was predeceased by her loving parents, Otho James and Catherine Lillian Freeman. She leaves behind a family who adored her: her siblings, Janice Freeman Ward and her husband Paul, James "Greg" Freeman, and Norman "Keith" Freeman and his wife Dana; her daughters, Kathryn "Katie" Carey, Anna Freeman Saidla, and Jesse "Aerin" Saidla; her cherished grandchildren, Cathryn "Alise" Carey, David Alan McCann Jr, Dylan Patrick McCann, Jayce Freeman, Brandon Lamont Goslee Jr, Andrew Lee Goslee, and Ruby Ryan Saidla; her great-granddaughter, Kathryn "Skyler" Walling, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews who will hold her memory dear.

Cathy's academic journey led her to Wor Wic where she graduated as a Registered Nurse, a profession that would become her calling and passion for many years. She began her career as a Community Health Nurse and worked in various nursing fields, with her favorite role being a school nurse in both Worcester and Wicomico Counties. Her nurturing nature and love for children shone through in her work, and she left a lasting impact on many young lives.

Not one to sit still, Cathy was instrumental in the completion of the Purnell Street Paving Project. Her drive to give back to the community was further exemplified in 2020 when she founded the non-profit organization Back Street Bikes, which refurbished bicycles for those in need. This initiative was a testament to her adventurous spirit and her passion for making a difference.

An athlete at heart, Cathy loved all sports and was a formidable competitor in running events, where she received many trophies. Her love for animals was profound, particularly for her beloved cat, Tabby. Cathy was also an active advocate for human rights and a proud member of the Worcester County NAACP. Her commitment to equality and justice was a cornerstone of her life.

Cathy's love for her family knew no bounds, especially when it came to her grandchildren. Despite her illness, she found great comfort and joy in watching her grandson Jayce play football on ESPN, a testament to her loving and supportive nature.

Those who knew Cathy will remember her as an adventurous, loving, and passionate woman. She approached life with a zest that was infectious, and her presence could light up a room. Her impact on her family, friends, and community was immeasurable, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Cathy's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, service, and the pursuit of justice. As we say farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the indelible mark she has left on the world. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be a beacon of light for generations to come.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Backstreet Bikes at Backstreetbikes.org.
