Justin Freeman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 20, 2026.
In loving memory of Justin Arnold Freeman

With profound and heavy hearts, we share the sudden, unexpected passing of Justin at his home in New Buffalo, MI.

Justin is survived by his loving wife, Jessica Lee; his parents Daniel and Christine (Arnold) Freeman of Port Isabel, Texas; a brother Blake Freeman of Lafayette, Louisiana; and his mother-in-law and brother-in-law.

Justin was a devoted husband, a loving son, and a dear brother. While he was a man of many passions, his heart belonged entirely to his wife. He loved her more than she could ever imagine; she was his "true north," his favorite travel partner, and the center of his world. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He cherished them deeply and treasured every moment they spent together, anchored by a love that transcended words.

Despite his brilliant mind - earning a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Illinois University and a Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering from UC Berkeley and recently serving as a respected engineer for Deep Fission - Justin remained remarkably humble. He was a truly kind soul, known for treating everyone with a gentleness and respect that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Justin's life was defined by a restless curiosity and a zest for adventure. In his youth, he found his stride on the ice playing hockey. As he grew, so did his thirst for excitement; he embraced the adrenaline of skydiving and the precision of motorcycle track racing. Later in life, he returned to the ice, finding joy in hockey once again as a hobby. He also loved the intensity of CrossFit, thriving on both the physical push and the lasting friendships he built with his workout crew.

When he wasn't chasing the next thrill, Justin found peace in nature. He had a special affinity for bonsai and trees, found creative fulfillment in woodworking, and enjoyed the simple pleasures of music and movies. He and his wife explored the world together, whether hiking through quiet forests or traveling to new lands. Justin also found a unique sense of zen beneath the waves, scuba diving among the reefs and marveling at the world underwater. This became a sacred time for bonding with his brother; though they had only completed two of their planned diving trips, they had intended to make it an annual tradition - a testament to the deep connection they shared.

Justin had many more adventures planned - including a long-held dream to see the Northern Lights. Though he left us too soon to see them here, we find peace knowing he now has the best view of the heavens he so longed to see. His legacy of kindness, humility, and immense love will remain with us forever.
