Julia Marie Goodrich, 71, of Waynesboro, died on Monday, October 18, 2010, at Brightview at Baldwin Park in Staunton.

She was born on July 3, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, a daughter of Clarence A. and Agnes Carlson Gracey.

Prior to her illness, she was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council, the Altar Guild, and in other capacities. An avid reader, she was a member of the Friends of the Library Board and the Waynesboro City Library Board. She was active in the AAUW and enjoyed crafts, quilting, bridge, and walking her dog.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles John Goodrich; and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Susan Goodrich.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Charles Goodrich of Waynesboro; two daughters, Jill Ratchford and her husband, Steve, of Midlothian and Dr. Alison Farruggio and her husband, J.J., of Washington's Crossing, Pennsylvania; two sons, Dr. Robert William Goodrich of Marquette, Michigan, and Timothy Andrew Goodrich of Waynesboro; two brothers and their wives, Stuart and Virginia Gracey of Whitby Island, Washington, and Tom and Mary Gracey of Elkhorn, Nebraska; six grandchildren, David, Brian, and Sarah Ratchford, Julia and Charles Goodrich, and Maximillian Farruggio; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church by Dr. Eric Childress. Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901, or the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, 500 South Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

The family requests no public viewing.
