It is with heavy hearts that we had to say goodbye to our beloved mother, Julia ‘Judy’ Victoria Simonds (Varney) 77, who passed away peacefully at her home in Dalton, NH on August 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 11, 1948, in Littleton, NH, Judy was the eldest of eight children of Clifford and Beverly (Tarris) Varney.
Judy’s greatest joy was creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. She shared 41 loving years with her husband SP5 Bradford, and together they raised three children: son, David Spreadbury Jr. and partner, Christine Roullard of Dalton, NH; daughter, Ronda Sharp of Groton, NH; son, Scott Spreadbury of Dalton, NH and partner, Melissa Jackman of Lyndonville, VT.
A woman of many talents and passions, Judy loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking and sewing - always eager to share her creations with others. There was nothing she couldn’t make, fix, mend or patch. She loved cooking and baking for friends, specializing in making food for special diets.
Throughout her life Judy worked various jobs from customer service to factory work, working with underprivileged children, assisting at the local senior center, providing transportation to the elderly, or offering childcare to a community member. She was known for always opening her home to any child in need providing a safe space and guidance. Her generous spirit and readiness to lend a hand touched countless lives. She enjoyed her life on the farm, especially her pet pig, Arnold. Spending time with her grandchildren and her great- grandbabies was always of importance.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Beverly Varney and her loving husband, SP5 Bradford Cooper Simonds.
Judy is survived by her children, her sister, Cheryl Varney Leavitt and her husband, David of Littleton, NH; sister, Jeannette Cummings and partner, Michael Doyen, of Bar Harbor, ME; sister, Cindy Varney and partner, Tim Bemis of Monroe, NH; brother, Michael and his wife, Joan Varney, of NJ; brother, Roger Varney, of GA; brother, John Varney, of Lancaster, NH; brother, Richard and his wife, Catha Varney, of Smyrna, GA. Grandchildren: Jeffery and his wife, Lena Sharp, Brianne Stevens and fiancé, Charles Mank, SGT Gregory and his wife, Shana Spreadbury, Dylan Spreadbury. Great Grandchildren: Kelly, Winter, Oakly, LakeLynn, Alana, Adaline, and Eleanor.
A Celebration of Life for both Julia and SP5 Bradford will be held on Sunday August 24, 2025, beginning at 2pm at the family home: 1084 Dalton Rd. Dalton, NH 03598.
