Julia Riley "Riley" Kupas

Julia Riley Kupas, a beloved sister, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on February 6th, 1954, in Passaic, New Jersey, Julia touched the lives of many throughout her vibrant journey.

Julia brought her nurturing spirit to the nursing profession, dedicating her career to caring for others as a charge nurse in various long-term care facilities across Illinois, Iowa, and primarily Pennsylvania. After earning her Associate's Degree as an LPN, she dedicated her professional life to improving the quality of care for countless individuals with compassion and dedication.

Residing in Severn, MD for the past two years, Julia was formerly a cherished resident of Cumberland, MD for a decade, with deep roots and fond memories of her previous years in Pennsylvania. She was a gentle yet adventurous soul, known for her spontaneous hitchhike to the legendary Woodstock concert at just 15 years old, where she volunteered in the medical tents.

Julia's spiritual journey saw her as a past member and active participant at the New Venture Christian Church in Cumberland, MD, where she was part of both the praise and leadership teams. Her faith extended into her community service as a Chaplain at UPMC Western Maryland. Her creativity and kindness were evident as she crafted her own puppets for ministry and devoted time to raising llamas, proudly participating in the South East Llama Rescue. Julia also had a great love for reading.

She is survived by her husband Andy Kupas, her step-daughters, Margaret Redmond and Domenica Kupas, and her dear sister, Elizabeth Eisenmenger (Karl), alongside her three grandchildren who were the light of her life. Julia is now reunited with her late parents, Jack and Ellen Riley, and her brother, William Riley, in eternal peace.

In celebration of Julia's extraordinary life, a celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date; details will be forthcoming for all who wish to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Severn Christian Church or the Southeast Llama Rescue, organizations close to her heart.

Julia will be remembered as a beacon of kindness, love, and cherished memories, living on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace, enveloped in love and light.
