A graveside service for Julia Kate McDill will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 11:30a.m., at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.
Mrs. McDill was born on February 11, 1921, to Hamp and Ola Savell.
She married George Thomas McDill on October 18, 1943, in Scott County, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2012. Following his death, Katie moved to Lubbock in 2014 to be near her daughter and son in law.
She passed away from her remarkable life on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the age of 103, having outlived all her siblings and many friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the time of her death, she was a resident at Wedgewood South Assisted Living where she received excellent care from the wonderful staff at the facility. She was so loved by all her caregivers, and she loved them in return.
Mother especially loved having chats with Carolyn, whom she called "The Boss Lady." Gwen and Paul are so thankful for all the remarkable caregivers that mother had at Wedgewood South and the angels at Grayce Enhanced Hospice Care. Everyone associated with Grayce Hospice provided exquisite care for Katie in her final months of life.
A special thanks to Linda Brown who was her special friend in Mississippi before she relocated to Lubbock in 2014, to Debbie Reeves who was not just a caregiver, but who became a dear friend in Lubbock, and to the extraordinary staff, especially Ingrid, at Combest Family Funeral Home.
Katie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Paul Belk of Lubbock, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
We rest peacefully in the knowledge that Katie has had a wonderful reunion with all those family members and friends who passed before her, and we know she is happy and healthy and celebrating her new eternal life in heaven.
