Julia B Mendell

Julia Mendell, aged 88, of Long Beach, California, lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease surrounded by family on September 10, 2025.

She was born in September 1936 to parents Lenneaus and Maude Bridges in Long Beach.

Julia, known as Julie to her friends and colleagues, attended schools in Long Beach, earning a BA in Education at what was then Long Beach State College, where she met the love of her life, John Mendell, also a student there.

They married in July 1962 and had one son, Richard.

Julia devoted her life to education and public service. Her nearly 50-year long career saw her rise through the Long Beach Unified School District from teacher to principal, earning two Masters' Degrees along the way. Her free time was spent serving her community as a volunteer, a role that fully absorbed her in her retirement, serving organizations such as the International City Theater, the Children's Dental Health Clinic of Long Beach, and multiple groups supporting new and experienced educators.

When not busy in her career or public service endeavors, Julia loved travel and dining out, venturing to almost every US state, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Julia is survived by her husband John, son Richard, daughter-in-law Veronica, and grandchildren Riley, Benjamin, and Samuel.

Interment will be at Fairhaven Cemetery in Santa Ana, California.
