David Wheelock

David Wheelock was born September 14, 1941, in Canadian, Texas. David married Janice Boden from Boulder, CO in 1962. They moved to Colorado in 1964 and had lived in Boulder, Littleton, Westminster, and Longmont, Colorado.

David is preceded in death by his wife Janice (Boden) Wheelock, parents Allen and Rev. Benedicta Wheelock, Stepfather Rev. Francis Moore and granddaughter Nicole Wheelock.

He is survived by his only sibling, Paul Wheelock and his wife Carolyn from Lewiston, Idaho, three children; daughter Teresa and her husband Jeffrey Johnson of Bow, WA, daughter Tamara and her husband Matthew Long of Longmont, CO and son Timothy Wheelock of Loveland, CO. He is also survived by six (6) grandchildren and three (3) great-grandchildren.

David was raised in Peoria, Arizona, graduating from Peoria High School and Pasadena College (now Point Loma University). David, his brother Paul, and another close personal friend attended school without missing a single day for well over twelve years in Peoria, Arizona.

David loved sports, particularly football, basketball, and baseball. He was all conference in High School football and played baseball at Pasadena College against schools like Pepperdine, Cal-Poly Pomona, Biola, Westmont, San Diego State, and the Marine and Naval bases in San Diego, California.

While in California, David worked at Northrop Architectural Systems (made aluminum doors and storefronts) and various odd jobs while attending school. He even worked for superman's (George Reeves) mother in Pasadena as well as the U.S. Post Office (Peoria, Arizona and Pasadena, California), bee business in Arizona, and the annual Rose Bowl Parade Floats pasting rose pedals on the 1963 Sweepstakes Union Oil Float. Interestingly, he purchased three dog houses for Superman's mother and dog sat while she visited family in Illinois.

Upon moving to Colorado, David began work in the Boulder County Assessor's Office. David began a career in "property taxation" with Boulder County, Tax Commission of the State of Colorado, and the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO).

David became a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) in Chicago, Illinois, which is the largest government appraisal organization in the world. During his tenure with IAAO he was involved with or held most offices in the Association including President of IAAO as well as teaching "property taxation" to classes in over thirty states. He also assisted in establishing a new property tax system in Northern Ireland. After being President of IAAO, David also became IAAO's Executive Director, the only person to do both jobs.

As a result of being an officer and President of IAAO, David traveled to well over thirty countries around the globe including such places as Ireland, Japan, China, New Zealand, Russia and many other European countries.

Locally, David and Janice became members of Boulder First Church of the Nazarene followed by becoming residents of Longmont and Longmont Church of the Nazarene which was newly formed as the so-called "second Church of the Nazarene" (previously Mountain View Church of the Nazarene and now Longmont Church of the Nazarene) or the little white church on Longs Peak Avenue in Longmont, Colorado.

He was also involved with teen Bible Quizzing at Boulder First Church of the Nazarene, Longmont Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, and the Church of the Nazarene District of Colorado, having two quiz teams at the same time over a few years. The Bible Quiz teams competed in Pasadena and Anaheim, California, Nampa, Idaho, and Kansas City, Missouri. In 1978, the team won second place at the International Institute held in Estes Park, Colorado by missing the last three questions of the final quiz.

David was involved in numerous church activities including, the first youth pastor at Longmont Church of the Nazarene, a position he held at Boulder First Church and Denver Southside Nazarene, Treasurer of Colorado District Nazarene Young People's Society (NYPS), Treasurer of RV's on a Mission for the General Church of the Nazarene (ROAM); church board member, and taught Sunday School educational classes on two separate and different occasions for extended periods of time, as well as other positions within the Church of the Nazarene.

Subsequent of his retirement from the Division of Property Taxation, Department of Local Affairs, State of Colorado, David provided property consultation services to Adams County, Colorado and free gratis property taxation consultation to numerous clients in Arizona and Colorado. Additionally, he volunteered to assist the Historical Society of Longmont (Hover Home and St. John's Episcopal Church on main street) along with other volunteer work.
