Julia Mae Newson, born on October 2, 1938, in Prentiss, Mississippi, gracefully departed this world on November 24, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

A devoted matriarch, Julia dedicated her life to her family, her church, and her passion for cooking. Her culinary skills were not just about feeding her loved ones, but rather an expression of her love and pride in each dish she created. Julia was truly one of a kind, a superwoman who tirelessly nurtured those around her, especially when she took Darron Magee under her wing, raising him as if he were her own. She poured her heart into every moment spent with her cherished family, reminding them with her warmth, wisdom, and comfort of the bonds that held them together.

Julia’s proudest accomplishments were evident in the lives she touched. She was a cornerstone of her family, raising her children—Tony Magee, Jerry Magee, Patricia Magee Evans, and Alexis Magee—with the same love and dedication that she brought to her grandchildren: Darron Magee, Javein Glover, Shatrina Hannah, and Trina Newson. Her legacy continues with her great-grandchildren, Jaylen Glover, Precious Hannah, and Javi Hannah, who carry the spirit of their beloved matriarch within them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frenchman and Vella Barnes, and her six siblings: Connie, Helen, and Elane Barnes, along with Robert “BoB,” James, and Pete Barnes. Each of her family members shared Julia’s commitment to love and kindness, and they will welcome her with open arms in eternal peace.

Julia's life was a reflection of love, generosity, and profound devotion, qualities that flowed from her heart and radiated into the lives she touched. Her unwavering faith and dedication to her church filled her soul and underpinned her remarkable spirit.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a viewing on December 12, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Corbett Funeral & Cremation, located at 807 W Wilshire Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. The service will honor a remarkable woman who made the world a better place through her love and devotion.

Julia Mae Newson will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew her.
