Lewis Sanders Newson, a beloved resident of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on Saturday, October 25th, 1941, in Fairburn, Georgia, Lewis lived a life dedicated to service, family, and community.

Lewis proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he developed a strong sense of duty and discipline that would guide him throughout his life. After his honorable military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a mechanic with the U.S. Postal Service. His dedication and expertise were evident in his work, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

He is remembered as a kind and humble man, deeply committed to his family and friends. Whether he was offering a helping hand or sharing his infectious humor, Lewis touched the lives of many around him. His legacy is one of warmth, resilience, and unwavering love.

Friends and family are invited to a Visitation at Gregory B. Levett and Son Funeral Home - Flat Shoals Location in Decatur, Georgia, on Friday, December 19th, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at 11:00 am at Saint Philip AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, a community that Lewis cherished deeply.

Following the service, Lewis will be laid to rest at Kennedy Memorial Cemetery in Ellenwood, Georgia, on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, with an interment service beginning at 1:30 pm.
