Julia Helen Spellman

JULIA HELEN SPELLMAN
December 24, 1923 ˜ July 17, 2023

It is with heavy hearts the family of Julia Helen Spellman announces her passing on July 17, 2023. Julia passed peacefully at Ray Hickey Hospice House one week after a massive stroke. Julia was a strong independent woman with incredible knowledge and generosity.
Julia was born in Vancouver, WA, on Dec. 24, 1923, to Soloman A. Johansen and Ester I. Egland Johansen.
Julia married Roy Edward Spellman in Yakima, WA, on July 22, 1942. Julia worked at the Oregon Shipyards in Vanport as a “Rosy the Riveter,” riveting under pontoons. Julia also worked as a seamstress at Jantzen during the 1960s.
Since Julia’s birthday is Christmas Eve, she enjoyed family gatherings. Especially, baking cookies for her grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren to decorate at the kitchen table.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; her son and daughter-in-law, Leland and Connie Spellman; her grandson, Kenneth Spellman; her brother, Richard “Dickie”; her sister, Evelyn; and her friend, Jim Byrd.
Julia is survived by sons, Dean (Kathy) Spellman of Amboy, WA, and Lynn (Susan) Spellman of Odell, OR.
Leland’s family: Christine (Don) Van Meter and their children, Nick and Amanda; Cheryl (Rob) Lassiter, and their children Austin, Conlee and Kenedi, Cynthia (Vince) Miller and their daughter Morgan.
Dean’s family: Krystal Spellman and her daughter, Amelia, Joshua Spellman, Melissa Rose Spellman.
Lynn’s family: Leah (Brandon) Smith and their children, Lily, Alyssa, Kal and Rylee.
As well as several nieces. nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
