Julia Rae Webb Frost, 94, of Nampa, ID, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 25, 2025 at Harbor House in Nampa.
Julia was born on April 28, 1931 in Nampa, ID to Edmund and Glyda Webb, and was the oldest of their four children.
At the age of 4 her family moved to Melba, Idaho where her father ran the drugstore. Because it was such a small town her father was the mayor, police and fire chief. As a 7-year-old, Julia told the other children that if they weren't nice to her, she'd have her father put them in jail. (Melba didn't even have a jail at that time).
Julia was raised during the depression era and learned to work hard at a very early age. At eight years old she decided to become a barber and practice on the neighborhood children, after 8 or 9 children received new haircuts – their parents showed up and her business was quickly closed down.
During Julia's childhood the second World War was in full swing, she shared memories of digging fox holes in the neighbor's backyard and making paths through wheat fields next to the school – she always wondered if the farmer questioned what made all the wheat lay down in such an odd pattern.
She spent many days watching her younger siblings and working at the drugstore, washing dishes. By the time she was 12 she decided to get a real job and worked in the fields picking peas ($.65 for a large hamper full), tasseling corn, hoed beets, wedded tiny onions starts, topped onions and carrots and hoed alfalfa fields. She decided to change jobs and applied to work for Idaho Potato Growers as a sorter. She was quickly promoted to head sorter which paid a lot more than the regular sorters – here she was in the 8th grade working as the boss over the sorter full of adults!
Julia graduated from Melba High School in 1948 and then went to BYU Utah to attend for 2 years. Her mother was very sick and called her back home to help with the pharmacy and take care of her siblings. She was able to enroll late at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa and graduated with a Pre-Professional Certificate to teach elementary school. She started teaching at Lakeview Elementary School, a small two room schoolhouse near the south west side of Lake Lowell and taught first through fourth grades.
In 1951 one of the school's students (Becky) introduced her to her father, Orren Frost who had previously lost his first wife. Becky was looking for a new mom and figured Ms. Webb would be a perfect fit. When he asked her out, she said she had other plans for the evening (she wanted to curl up and read a book instead). In 1952 Orren asked her out again, this time she accepted his invitation. On July 1, 1952 they were married in Nampa, ID at her Johnson Grandparents home. They lived in Lakeview for a short time and then moved into Meridian and ran a Grade A dairy. They were blessed with two additional children. They moved to the Houston area for a few years and then moved out to the Marble Front Community East of Caldwell.
Julia made wonderful memories at different jobs She was a school teacher for 26 years. Teaching grades 1-4 at Lakeview, grades 1-4 at Houston, 3rd grade at Kenwood and the old original Roosevelt elementary school and she finished her teaching career teaching 3rd grade at Eastside school. She also worked at other jobs, picking and sorting fruit for her grandfathers fruit orchard south of Lake Lowell and taking on babysitting during her summers off teaching. She also worked at Meridian Wood products, where Woodgrain Moulding is now located and was even a matron police dispatcher for the Nampa police department. Her job required her to be armed with a pistol because at that time some businesses would drop off their money, for safe keeping, at the police station!
In 1965 they moved their family to Nampa, ID and in 1976 Julia and Orren were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
Julia was an active member of the LDS church and served in many wonderful callings.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents Ed & Glyda Webb, her husband Orren Frost, siblings Richard Webb, Edmund Webb, George Richard Webb and Leslye Webb Sagers and her daughter Pat Cheney and son in law's Blair Nay & Brent Harris, daughter in law Mona Frost, granddaughter Vicki Harris Bushno, and great grandson William Stanley Frost.
Julia is survived by her children Rebecca Harris, Bill Frost (Grace), Steve Cheney (Son in Law), Grandchildren: Scott Harris (Kathy), Heather Longoria, Mark Frost (Anita), KC Nay (Crystal), Jonathan Frost (Marta), Fawn Gold (John), and Kyle Nay (Mariah). And numerous Great Grandchildren.
Our family is very thankful for the care that Julia has received from the great staff at Harbor House Nampa and Keystone Hospice over the last two years.
