JULIA D. FALLIS WISE WEST POINT - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt returned to the arms of our Heavenly Father on Friday, January 9, 2009, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Julia was born in Hatch, Garfield County, Utah, on April 5, 1926, the fifth child of Jacob Alonzo Fallis and Abigail Clove Fallis. Julia left home at the age of 16 to work in Salt Lake City. She finished high school at night, graduated from West High and then attended the University of Utah for a short time. She married Van Dorn Smith, Nov. 8, 1946; two daughters were born, Jeni and Debra. They were later divorced. On March 11, 1966, Julia married Stanley Thomas Wise and gained another beautiful daughter, Linda. They were sealed for time and eternity March 4, 1975 in the Ogden Temple. She met her husband while working at Hill Field. She retired from the Civil Service after 15 years. Julia had a beautiful singing voice and sang for many occasions. She shared her husband's interest in horseback riding and received awards in Trail Riding and Native Arabian Costume competitions. She was a talented artist in water color and oil painting but excelled in fine porcelain painting. She was a member of the World Organization of China Painters and was a past president of the Mt. Lomond Chapter as well as an instructor for many years. She was an excellent seamstress, poet and gardener. She also enjoyed quilting and held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She and her husband served 5 years as temple workers in the Ogden Temple. Julia loved education and was ever seeking and gaining knowledge. She is survived by her husband, Stan; daughters Jeni (J. Stanley) Hall of West Point; Debra (D J Vanderwerff) of Kansas City, Kansas; Linda (Fred) Giffin of Bear River; 13 grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters LaVerne Olson, Blackfoot, Idaho; Dorothy Imlay, Emmet, Idaho; brother Arvel A. (Anita) Fallis, Fallon, Nevada; brother in law Francis Simons, McCammon, Idaho. Preceded in death by her parents; brother Mark C. Fallis; sister Idonna F. Deuel; sister Elaine F. Simons. Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Point 5th Ward chapel, 3500 West 300 North, West Point, Utah. Friends may greet the family on Friday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, West Point City Cemetery.
