Julian L. Smith passed away August 15, 2025 at the age of 62. He was born May 7, 1963 to the late William L. Smith and Marie Drake Smith Bearden.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Smith; sisters, Janice Kennedy and Judy Smith; great-nephews, Bryce Rodgers and Bentley Hansel; brother-in-law, Bill Bolin.
Julian was a fun-loving guy who embraced life with an infectious spirit. He had a unique ability to see the glass half full, reminding everyone around him that life, though brief, was meant to be savored and celebrated. With his warm smile and witty sense of humor, he had a knack for making people laugh, even on the toughest days. His passion for living life to the fullest was evident in everything he did.
Deeply devoted to his family, Julian found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He adored them with all his heart, nurturing their spirits and sharing countless joyful moments that will forever be etched in their memories. Those moments spent together were filled with laughter, love, and the creation of bonds that will withstand the test of time.
Julian's love for the outdoors was as boundless as his affection for his family. He was an avid fisherman, with a particular fondness for crappie fishing. His enthusiasm was contagious; he happily shared his knowledge with others, even writing instructions on how to fish for crappies. The many days spent fishing with his brother, Jay, were cherished adventures filled with camaraderie and storytelling, reflecting Julian’s deep appreciation for shared experiences. He also enjoyed deer hunting, another of his great passions, always eager to pass down his skills to those around him, especially family members.
He is survived by his daughter, Crystal (Perry) Converse; sons, Joshua (Tori) Smith, Jeremy (Casey) Smith, Justin (Felicia) McDonald and Josh McDonald; grandchildren, Kyndal (Ryan King), Jayda (Cody Buchanan), Aubry, Ansley, Jaycee, Sawyer Grace, Keaton , Easton, Lorelai and Leighton; great-grandchildren, Maerilynn Marie King and Silas Buchanan; sisters, Jennifer (Charles) Miller, Joyce Bolin; brothers, Leon (Alicia) Smith, Jay (Heather) Smith and Ronnie, companion, Dianne Cooper and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith will lie in state for a visitation in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The family asks that in honor of Julian and his love for the outdoors that family and friends wear camouflage shirts and jeans, no formal attire.
