Juliana Stancik Obituary

Juliana 'Jul' D. Stancik, 83, of Vandergrift, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 21, 1940, in Natrona Heights, she was the daughter of the late Julius M. and Irene M. (Filo) Stancik. She lived the majority of her life in Pittsburgh and later moved back to Vandergrift. Juliana was an active individual who had a passion for sports. She played basketball for the Duquesne women's team. She enjoyed snow skiing and playing tennis. Her love for travel took her to many European countries. Fatima and Portugal were her favorite destinations. Juliana's Catholic faith was central to her life, as she frequently prayed to the Blessed Mother and attended the Latin Mass. Juliana worshipped at St. Boniface and found solace in her faith. In her leisure time, she loved reading, watching movies, and listening to opera. Her educational journey included attending Holy Trinity Parochial School, Vandergrift High School, and Duquesne University. Juliana was employed by several Pittsburgh area hospitals as a social worker, cytologist, and ultrasound technician. She was dedicated to helping others through her work. Juliana is survived by her brothers, John of Vandergrift and Kevin (Kathleen) of Ocala, FL. A blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2024 at Greenwood Memorial Park Chapel, 104 Melwood Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068 with Father Michael Sciberras officiating. Juliana was my sister but was more like a mother to me given she was 20 years elder. She bought me my 1st bicycle that I rode through the neighborhood proudly blowing its horn. She taught me how to play tennis and snow ski that I continue to do to this day. Whe I got my drivers license She showed me how to drive stick shift in her Fiat 124 sport spider. I didn't want to go to college but she knew I had mechanical ability and convinced me to study mechanical engineering and helped me obtain an Air Force ROTC scholarship at WVU by assisting with my application. I wish I could have returned the many favors she gave me by caring for her with her medical issues but I had a family to take care of. I know she is resting peacefully now in heaven. Thank you for being a kind and wonderful sister to me.
