Julianna Crosier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bell-O'Dea Funeral Home - Brookline on Dec. 8, 2025.
Julianna Crosier, a longtime resident of Brookline, Massachusetts, died of natural causes in Boston on November 27, 2025. She was born in the small baroque city of Pápa in western Hungary on December 10, 1946, the daughter of Imre Lázár and Livia (Korein) Lázár.

In November of 1956 Hungarians revolted against the Communist Soviet occupation of their country. After an intense struggle the revolt was crushed by the Soviet forces. During the chaos Julianna and her family left their home under the cover of darkness traveling by horse and wagon, train, and over a footbridge to freedom in Andau, Austria shortly before the bridge was blown up. The family eventually settled in Boston. This leap to freedom was a major event in Julianna's life and she remained a proud speaker of the Magyar language.

As a high school student, Julianna developed her artistic abilities and was a winner of the Boston Globe Award for a woodcut portrait. She attended the Vesper George School of Art, where she specialized in fashion illustration, and attended classes at the New England School of Art. For many years she used her skills in typography and page layout working in the educational publishing industry.

Julianna was an avid reader, travelled abroad frequently, enjoyed knitting and other textile crafts, and spent countless peaceful hours developing her flower gardens.

She is survived by her daughter, Alexandra Crosier of Lisbon, Portugal, a brother András Lázár of Antrim, New Hampshire, and his family, her former husband, Prentice Crosier of Boston and Montague, and by Carl Ducey, a companion of many years.

Memorial services will be private. For those who wish to honor her memory, please consider donating to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, https://curealz.org/giving/donate/.
