Julianne Hamm Obituary

Julianne T. Hamm, "Julie" died peacefully on August 20, 2025 at her home she lived in for 58 years in Boyds, MD.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved son, James J. Hamm, II "Jack", daughter-in-law, Nanci and two grandchildren, Reagan and Jackson; step-daughter, Robin Friedhoff and Robin's three children, Krissy, Kelsey and Kevin; one brother, Anthony Salatto; one nephew, Alekos Polyzos "Alex", wife, Maria and one great-nephew, Visillios Polyzos "Billy".

She is predeceased by her parents, Louis and Anna Salatto; her husband, Jackson Whitfield Hamm, I "Jack" and one sister, Theresa Polyzos.

Julie loved history and nature and took care of her beloved horse, Pat, her ram, Arthur and many barn cats until her death. She was fiercely independent and loyal and stayed busy with her many many friends and her volunteer work with the Friends of Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Boyds Historical Society and Montgomery County Parks.

Julie worked at Montgomery County Park and Planning at Black Hill Regional Park for 32 years and retired at the age of 80 in 2021. She made so many lifelong friends during her time at Black Hill and continued to keep in touch with many of them during her retirement.

She treasured her time with her grandchildren, Reagan and Jackson and shared her love of history of the Montgomery County and Frederick County areas as well as her love of nature with them. She was truly beloved by so many, which was evidenced by the many family, friends (from all parts of her life), co-workers and neighbors lined up to visit her during the last few weeks of her life.

In lieu of flowers please send a donation in her memory to Friends of Black Hills Nature Program, https://www.friendsofblackhillnature.org/donate.

A celebration of life will be planned for the near future. Julianne T. Hamm

Sorry to see this. She passed on my birthday. I was pleased to know both she and Jack. Worked for Jack when he was a captain. High integrity, straight shooter. All good memories. Bill Henderson

Julie, I can still hear your cheerful voice on the phone. I´ll cherish the time we went to explore Mother Seaton in Emm then go to lunch.
I´ll always treasure you. Xo
