Julie A. Burke
February 2, 1956-September 21, 2023
Julie Burke, 67, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday September 21, 2023, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City, IN.
She was born February 2, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Roger K. Barnhart and Patricia (Seidler) Barnhart.
On July 14, 1979, Julie married to James Burke at the St. John Church in La Porte, IN.
Julie spent her life helping others. She graduated from Purdue University and was a practicing Registered Nurse for years. During this time, she was a devoted member of the PTA serving as officer at several schools and served on the Board of Managers. She was a member of the American Legion Hamon Gray Post 83 of La Porte and was very involved with the women's auxiliary. She spent time as an emergency room nurse both in La Porte and Michigan City. She cared deeply for the patients she served, and the Doctors loved working with her. Julie loved to travel and visited many of the United States and Canada. She loved visiting Niagara Falls with Jim. Julie's favorite pastime was watching NASCAR with Ryan Newman being her favorite driver and she loved squirrels. She got her love of soccer watching her daughter play. She was always there to see her play and many times she would be seen working at the concession stand. She truly was a "Soccer Mom". Above all else Julie loved her family, especially her grandson Landon and will be missed by many.
She is also survived by her husband Jim, daughter, Krystle (Travis) Madden of Greenwood, IN; sister, Brenda Barnhart of Valparaiso, IN; and grandchild, Landon Madden.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents and her son, James Burke.
